Z Chupacabra, Favorite for the race broke slowly and settled comfortably at the rear of the field. Rival Fleet Street running well behind the leaders. Made her move early in the turn, buried Fleet Street and challenged leader. Won by 5 HL over RedWizard’s Babydoll. Fleet Street faded, never challenged.

Alaska flipped lazily through the channels, searching for anything of interest. She paused briefly, watching the happy cartoon sponge dance across the screen.

“Is there really NOTHING to watch here!?!?” She exclaimed in frustration, switching channels again and falling back into the large armchair.

“You just don’t know how to work the freaking telly.. “ Charlie said sarcastically, rolling her eyes. After a few minor bumps, She and Alaska had become quick friends, easily bonding over being the rare female in a male dominated field.

Alaska shot her a look, “I wanna watch horse races!” She pouted. Laska was itching to get back on the track and to ride Gummi, but unfortunately, one couldn’t spend every waking minute on horseback. Channel surfing once more, she paused, interested in the bright gold lettering fluttering across the screen. Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies . “CHARLIIIIEEEE!!” Alaska screeched, cranking up the volume. “I FOUND A FREAKING HORSE RACE!!”

“Good for you.. good for you..” Charlie said laughing, and pulling her legs up onto her chair. She was interested; finally a large American race was on TV. I mean they got a few, but not in the past few months. .. So it was fresh blood.

“Welcome to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies! Starting your field for today is RedWizard’s Babydoll, a gorgeous black filly sired by the legendary Little Red Wind, She’ll be one to watch today. Number 2 is Blue N’ Grassy, a nice looking grey. Number 3 is Shoot For the Stars, Number 4 is Indigo Moon, a filly with a excellent streak. She’s looking great today! “ The string of commentary continued, both girls watching intently. “Number 7 is Fleet Street. The great bay filly by City Zip, She’s done really well this season and is a real contender for the win!”

“Hey! Look it’s Fleet!” Alaska said, pointing at the bay filly on screen. She had yet to fill out completely, while her coat had shed out and gained some shine, she still had those long gangly legs. Indigo was also looking good, her coat just a touch more grey then it had been from the maiden race.

“Number 8 is CeliaCSomethingPretty. I do happen to like this filly, she has real spirit!”

“Come on… come on… she’s got to be here somewhere…” Alaska muttered under her breath, “all the horses she’s run with are here…”

“Number 9 and your favorite for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, is the one. The only. Z Chupacabra! The undefeated black filly out of the superhorse Zenyatta, sired by Japan’s finest, Deep Impact. This race could determine if she remains undefeated and if she secures the Champion Two Year Old of 2013. There are many great horses on the field today, it will be an exciting turnout!”

“BINGO!” Alaska shrieked, dancing excitedly in her seat. “That’s her! The filly I was telling you about!!!”

“CALM. DOWN.” Charlie said with a snort, doing her best to try and calm her friend. “It’s only racing..” she said jokingly.

“You’re the one to talk…” Alaska said, chucking the magazine on the coffee table across the room towards the other chair.

“Your final horse for this field is number 15, Broken Heart. They are loading into the gate now, Number 7 Fleet Street gives her usual fuss going in, Favorite, Z Chupacabra goes in smoothly. They’re all in. It should be interesting to see these two fillies head to head once more!” There was that split second of silence as the girls perched on the edge of their seats in anticipation.

“AND THEY’RE OFF in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies! Indigo Moon breaks well from the gate and takes the early lead. CeliaCSomethingPretty right behind her! Z Chupacabra settles easily at the back of the field. Number 7 Fleet Street on the outside mid pack. As they come around the first turn, it’s Number 4, Indigo Moon setting a quick pace, CeliaCSomethingPretty is still running strong in second, Blue N’ Grassy snug in third. Z Chupacabra is still trailing. Heading into the backstretch now, it’s still Indigo Moon running strong, CeliaCSomethingPretty holding, Fleet Street beginning to move now, Blue N’ Grassy is falling back as RedWizard’s Babydoll glides into third. Z Chupacabra is still running comfortably 14 lengths off the pace, she’s at ease here, still finding her stride. Coming down the backstretch it’s Indigo Moon still running well in front, RedWizard’s Babydoll is picking things up now, pulling even with CeliaCSomethingPretty. Fleet Street getting her game on, look at those legs go! Z Chupacabra is now 10 lengths off the pace. “

Alaska slid forward in her seat, her eye glued to the screen, “Come on…” she was excited… the black filly was still running in her usual place at the rear, giving all her fans, Alaska included, a severe heart attack. She ran behind the field and moved late, her style, but always a nail biter.

“As they come into the final turn RedWizard’s Babydoll sweeps the lead, Indigo Moon dropping to third as Fleet Street challenges. Z Chupacabra is beginning to run now, moving up through the pack. And around the turn they come! RedWizard’s Babydoll ahead by 2, Fleet Street there after her, Indigo Moon still holding on. Z Chupacabra is flying now, charging up on the outside as they turn for home. “

“HERE SHE COMES!!” Alaska squealed, clutching the remote tightly in her hand. Her heart was pounding in her chest, her knuckles white from her death grip on the remote. She worked her hands up and down in the air, as though she was riding the black filly as she ran down the field.

“And down the stretch they come! RedWizard’s Babydoll in the lead, Z Chupacabra is swinging three wide on the outside, burying Fleet Street and Indigo Moon, moving to challenge RedWizard’s Babydoll. As they come racing towards the wire it’s RedWizard’s Babydoll and Z Chupacabra stride for stride! It’s going to be close folks! RedWizard’s Babydoll and Z Chupacabra, racing for the finish line, Z Chupacabra is beginning to open up now, pulling forward by one length! Can she do it!!!?!!”

“COME ONE CHU!!” Laska shouted, jumping to her feet. Charlie rolled her eyes, her friend was going a bit far.

The announcer once again started his banter, “It’s Z Chupacabra pulling ahead by two lengths! RedWizard’s Babydoll trying to catch up now, but it’s Z Chupacabra now by four lengths! It looks like this super filly is going to keep up her winning streak! RedWizard’s Babydoll trying to make a late bid, but no, I’ts the black filly with pink wraps, Z CHUPACABRA BY FIVE LENGTHS! This filly has done it folks! She has continued her winning streak! An Excellent end to her first season!”

“YAY! SHE DID IT CHAR! SHE DID IT! SOMEONE SAY SUPERHORSE!” Alaska was overjoyed; the shiny black filly had proven herself once and for all. Running an excellent season against the ladies and remaining undefeated. Only time would tell what she could do, but Alaska had a really good feeling in her gut. She was the princess, coming to claim her crown.
